After the amazing hype, "This Is It" has finally arrived in cinemas, and it's been so popular that its short two week season has been extended to four weeks. My advice is go and see this movie, even if you aren't a Michael Jackson fan.
Michael Jackson fans will enjoy the unbiased representation of him in his element, performing and then altering and crafting his performance. "This Is It" offers a great showcase of his singing and dancing talents, that were still thriving at his time of death, as well as an insight into his social and creative sides. Viewers see clips of Jackson as shy and fun-loving, a truly kind and gentle individual. Jackson and non-Jackson fans alike will be intrigued as they watch Jackson plan and develop his "This Is It" concert. He was a perfectionist, determined to impress his audience. The final concerts truly would have been a masterful combination of song, dance, lighting, pyrotechnics and various performing arts.
The movie takes you behind the scenes of the 50 sold-out London shows Jackson was preparing for – a compilation of rehearsals of songs, concept art for various stage mechanics, and new music video-styled sequences destined for a London premiere. Watching footage that is solely from rehersal and practice is fascinating, a unique viewing experience for this reviewer. This film isn't cloaked in sadness and does not refer to Jackson's death, until a brief mention immediately before the final credits. Instead "This Is It" showcases Jackson's massive performing ability and gives an amazing account of a brilliant entertainer planing and perfecting his work.
